A week of lamps I

"The invisible woman"

A poetic film directed by Ralph Fiennes who holds the main role, that of Charles Dickens. The invisible woman of the title was Dickens' lover, Nelly Ternan, with whom the author had a long extramarital affair. Nelly is played very well by Felicity Jones. If you are an admirer of Dickens' work, if you, like me, believe that the British can create masterpieces in literature, theatre and cinema, then you will enjoy this film with all your heart.

A most exciting trip

Apart from travelling, I find that reading is a very exciting thing.
As a student I "fell in love" with a writer called Lawrence Durrell. His books made me travel to various places in Greece and Cyprus, as well as in Egypt.
Years before reading his "Alexandria Quartet" I had watched the film "Justine". I was too young to understand it or even imagine what Justine, Balthazar, Mountolive and Clea would later mean to me.

"The old Patagonian Express"

I've just started reading this travel book by Paul Theroux and I'm sure I'm going to like it enormously.
In the past I read Bruce Chatwin's "In Patagonia" and found it excellent.
It seems that the two writers were friends.
P.S.After having finished the book, I thought I should write my impressions of it.

Molière on Île de Ré

Alceste à Bicyclette or Cycling with Molière is a very good french film on the relation of two middle-aged actors who are rehearsing "The Misanthrope".
